Rider biomechanics refers to the study of the body mechanics and movement patterns of horse riders. It involves understanding how riders interact with their horses to achieve optimal performance, balance, and communication. This includes analysing posture, position, alignment, balance, and movement efficiency to improve riding skills, prevent injuries, and enhance the connection between horse and rider.

Mechanical Horse Sessions

One of the best ways to focus on the Biomechanics of the rider is through mechanical horse sessions.

The mechanical horse is a great tool for any rider, from novice to advanced level. It is a great way to look at us as a rider without the influence of a real horse. At Reformed Riders we use Racewood mechanical horses, which are specifically built to simulate equestrian sports. They are designed to mimic the movements of a real horse, providing riders with a platform to practice their skills, such as balance, posture, and rhythm, in a controlled environment. These simulators are adjustable to simulate different gaits, speeds, and movements, providing valuable training opportunities for riders of all levels.

A typical rider biomechanics session starts with allowing riders to learn how to use the simulator. This is then followed by a full body position analysis and body awareness exercises. These sessions are about becoming aware of your body, its function and how this can affect your horse's way of going. Sessions will include specific exercises for improvement of your ridden position. Focusing specifically on you and your needs as a rider.

Sessions can be block-booked and can be booked for individuals or groups. With sessions available for all ages and levels of riders from just starting to those competing at top levels.
